Creating Watercolor Pencil Drawing with Mixed Media

Fashion illustrations should reflect the look and feel of the garment, the garment era, as well as the personality of the artist him/herself. I like the look of a vintage garment, so I utilize the following method when coloring my fashion illustrations.

Supplies:
Watercolor Pencils
Ultrafine point Marker
1. Once fashion sketch is completed, use a dry watercolor pencil to fill in over the large areas. This sketch utilized the dark umber watercolor pencil by Prismacolor®.
2. On top of the same area, use a light application of water with a brush (water is used as a wash).
3. Once illustration is dry, add desired pattern and texture to sketch. This sketch utilized the crimson red watercolor pencil by Prismacolor® to highlight texture at the waist.
4. For facial details and trim details, such as the scallop edge on sleeve and collar and the waist, use an ultra fine point black marker. This sketch used Prismacolor® premier ultra fine point black #05 for detailing.
5. To give a vintage look to the illustration, top it all off by using a light coating of a sepia color. This sketch utilized the sienna brown watercolor pencil by Prismacolor®.
