Bijou

I never understand how people value lofty words to over emphasize their point. I was reading a fashion site earlier today and they used the term “bijoux” instead of jewelry or accessory. The term stood out like a sore thumb within the article. It was like the writer went into their thesaurus to find the most obscure phrase to make their writing seem elevated, completely lame and unnecessary.

Main Websters Dictionary Entry for bijou:
Pronunciation: \ˈbē-ˌzhü\
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural bijous or bi·joux
Etymology: French, from Breton bizou ring, from biz finger
Date: 1668
1 : a small dainty usually ornamental piece of delicate workmanship : jewel
2 : something delicate, elegant, or highly prized

Funny, a co-worker and I were discussing this vary issue today. I suppose the use of words in this manner is an attempt by the user to separate themselves, or what they're speaking about, from others. I just hear a "DING" after a word like that and imagine Wink Martindale peaking around the corner saying "your 10 cent word of the day".
